I'm afraid I'm on Fungus' side. I believe an artist, should be payed for the music they make. After all, it's their job. To me, it's like the same thing as not paying, let's say a plumber, for plumbing. I torrent anime occasionally, but never music.

your saying Torrent'n= stealing am i right fungus and squidd?
I am all for stealing from a corporation as large as the music/movie industry. They have so much influence on your everyday life, tell you what to like, what to wear, how to look. that should be against the law.
EDIT: They make so much money every second its sickening to me. How they can sit there and have the power to help the world in some form but do nothing.

But you don't have to follow any of the your so called "rules" set up by said Corporations. When it comes down to it, I find peer-pressure to be the main cause of shit like that. The groups I listen to work hard making their music, and I believe they should be paid for it.

And thats fine, Buy their albums theres nothing wrong with supporting a band that you enjoy. Every show i go to i buy as much music as i can carry home, I buy mostly vinyl records(i like the sound quality) because i have never been to a mainstream concert and probably never will. So when a band comes to the west coast i buy their music. Alot of the times underground band much rather get their music out there as in Downloads. then make a buck. Being a musician myself i have CD's for sale but they only break even($1). At the same time all my music is for free to download as well. At shows when i'm sale'n CD's i take anything. Im not going to stop someone that enjoyed my music just cuz they dont have money.

It's different with small acts, because a lot of times it's just a hobbie. If I were ever to make music, I'd make it free. But IF it's someones career, that's different. It's how capitalism works, but you're an anarchist.

Since a 1980's CD costs $20.00 still I can see where Sal is coming from.
It is not illegal to download music, it is illegal to SHARE the download, which unfortunately that's how torrenting works.
Just pick up Itunes, that's a pretty cheap way to get music.

I just fixed a free account for Spotify. No fee, all free. And somehow they manage to pay the artists anyway. People don't like commercial breaks it seems.
Cheers!

Can't use Spotify in the US. If you could, I'd definitely use it.

Hes saying we are dog eating little bits of Food(music) while the master(music artist) is eating a banquette(money) at lest thats how i took it

In my Divine and righteous opinion...
1. If the music/movie/game is available to you, be it by paid download, official free download or going out and buying it from a shop or e-shop (including Ebay)... then you should pay for it.
2. If the music/movie/game is NOT available to you, that is, not in any legal downloadable form or physical manifestation due most-likly to it being rather old and "out of print", then I don't see why you shouldn't be able to download it. It is the only way you can aquire it, and either way the people who own it wouldn't get any money.

The Beatles/ AC-DC aren't on iTunes, so I go tot Piratebay to download them. The Star Wars saga isnt on iTunes, so I download those too (even though I bought the movies on DVD).
The only reason I use iTunes is because everything is labelled/has album art and everything is 'proper' and Im picky like that
