Why does there need to be developed, serious characters in a bullet-hell shooting game? I have played a few of them, and I really do not see any need for a deep plot line. They don't strike me as being the kind of game to need something like that. I mean what will the anime be about? "MUST SHOOT SHIT NAO PEW PEW PEW".

You'd be surprised. I think the idea of a bullet hell shooter with a story is quite interesting, in the same way Blazblue is a fighter with a good story.

If I remember correctly there is 2 of them, but they rarely show up.

And as far as the Anime goes, most of the plots behind each of the games revolves around the weather being all messed up. The seasons aren't going they way they should be, it's snowing in summer etc. So you pick your character and go out to find who is behind all of it. Surprisingly they did put a good amount work into the characters compared to other side scrolling bullet madness type games. I think that with a little work it can be pulled off quite nicely.
