If you're going pure pirates make sure you get Shae and his cannon.
It's AMAZING. Especially the incendiary shot. I didn't like my Carnivean getting nearly ripped in half and set on fire to boot.

how easy it to get a hordes army to vs a warmachine army?

It's the same game, not a big amount of difference. Same world, some armies can even have both warbeasts and warmachines (namely Skorne, or any warmachine army that wants to hire Rorsch and Brine).
Going against each other's more dependent on the armies themselves. Chief differences when fighting is that Warbeasts are generally harder to kill than Warjacks and can't be crippled as easily, so try to kill them in one go, or make sure if you only manage to seriously wound them that you're prepared for its counterattack.
