Pokemon was good when we were little.
Now days it is more of a cartoon then an anime. Like a launching pad for getting into anime. Things like Digimon, Zoids and metabots. Those a kids animes I thought were pretty good back in the day.

Sorry but Rex counts as a Japanese mech, he moves stupidly fast and does do a lot of things a humanoid J mecha does that wouldn't actually be possible due to the weight. The design is made to fit the game and it works because it looks bloody amazing with the cockpit mouth and such. Western mechs usually just stand and fire at each other, this thing grabs Ray in its mouth and slams it against walls. Yeah theres no doubt these are amazing (One of my favorites) but these aren't humanoid mechs. I think thats more what I'm arguing for right now, even if it wasn't specified but it was implied a couple of times. Mechwarrior (Scratch that, I was thinking of MechAssault) did a good job of its mechs but the game was over the top as hell so it didn't really have the realistic restrictions of most western mecha. I'll use this as a chance to open the debate a bit, and get some examples of less human J mechs. Also theres one thing to note, Japanese mechs are pretty much replacements for other things such as spaceships (In Star Wars, they use X-Wings and Tie fighters), Gundam are mainly meant for space bound flight and the design is due to the synchronization between the pilot and machine. I wouldn't really call Western mechs "Proud killing machines", more like heaps of metal. I think the idea is that its a big overly complex suit (Gundam was originally based off of Samurai armor) that gives them the power to change the world, though Gundam 00 used the odd western mecha design. Also, Gundam are primarly made for CQC anyway. Want lots of guns? Here you go static1.animepaper.net/upload/thumbs/wallpapers/Mobile-Suit-Gundam-SEED/%5Blarge%5D%5BAnimePaper%5Dwallpapers_Mobile-Suit-Gundam-SEED_Meth-anE_15211.jpgHeres something a little more western, a lot of the time you see these in Gundam as fodder due to their slow speed and lack of close combat power. www.gearsonline.net/gundam/tyrantsword/messala/messala-jupiter3.gifEDIT: +balls to Dangeresque for the cool reply. And rage, pictures aren't working, will update soon. Proboards is failing me

Now days it is more of a cartoon then an anime. Sorry to tell you this, but anime is just a fancy word for cartoon. Every single anime is a cartoon. Just like every single manga is just a comic, and nothing more.

Indeed, but anime is generally a lot more mature/sophisticated, though I question that at times. Especially the past few seasons of anime which just generally seem quite bad ;P

I don't know, When it boils down to it perhaps. But I would like to think that there is a distinct difference in content and art style. Anime beating cartoon by quite a bit by appealing to a broad mature audience and looking rather Japanese/better in its art style. So by your logic.. would you say THIS is an anime? It is considered a cartoon, But I would never put it in the same category as an anime. Anime is just a world above on so many levels

Anime = cartoon. You can try and complicate it all you want, but in Japan where it's actually a word you should be using it literally does just mean cartoon. In fact, they probably would call that anime.
Hell, the only reason I use the word anime at all is to avoid pointless arguments with 13 year old girls who can't accept that their religion is actually the same thing as the simpsons.
Edit- 200th post, I feel like I wasted it...

Nope. You told it like it is. Take's balls man, and I agree 100% with you. Anime = Toons. Just a different art style.

Yup Anime directly translates to cartoon, though Manga translates to something like whimsical pictures.

I went to an anime convention and have very little to actually say about Anime and Manga in general here...
Though the YuGiOh Abridged guy, Littlekuriboh, started doing his own Naruto Abridged a while back. Well worth watching, mainly for mocking Sasuke.

^ I like the song, but it's not Coheed's best The War of the World's movie is pretty Kick-Ass too. On the topic of anime, I've decided my next watch will have to be Wolf's Rain.

I've watched the first ep. It was really interesting, I'll probably continue it soon. Post apocalypse setting is really cool. War of the Worlds 2005 Tripod design was impeccable, so many designers have been influenced by it (E.G. the tripod in Unreal Tourny 3, the colossus in Starcraft? Unsure if it made an appearance in the original but judging by the art book, they took some ideas from the WotW Tripod).

I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!
Why is Miku Hatsune so popular? I mean seriously. When you get down to it, it's just a computer program. Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.

Miku Hatsune is so popular because Otakus are all massive fucktards that need to be sterilised.
Mystery solved brah.

Not a big fan of Vocaloid even if it is awesome, sounds pretty bad. Maybe they just like the character design or something, or just like the idea of having virtual pop idols.
