The style needs to go back to how it was when Dragonball Z, Berserk, Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue and many more were shown. You never saw any character made to be over the age of 20 who looked like a 12 year old back then. Saying that, there are still many shows that don't follow that art style but keep the exaggeration which is proof it does NOT come with the artstyle entirely. A good example to me is Clannad which captures age quite well with a very exaggerated style. A bad example would be something like Railgun, although it wasn't a bad show at all, they definitely had some of the characters purposefully petite for that audience.
Many people think that anime will change again soon as these shows are becoming less and less popular as of late, this season coming up has very few fanservice shows compared to the last few seasons of anime. It's possible that anime is heading back in a good direction again and it could be to do with action taken within Japan in the past year such as the loli ban that never actually happened due to top mangaka being against it (I believe the ban entailed that no characters depicted under a certain age would be allowed, limiting the freedom of innocent mangaka and anime studios drastically such as Miyazaki). I didn't read much about it so I could be wrong, but it seems that a middle ground would stop anime coming back to what it became over the past few years.

Japan's government is very all or nothing when it comes to certain things. I think it will be a struggle to get a 'loli-ban' that keeps a cap on paedophilic themes, undertones and references, because it will take time for Politicians to realize that Anime and Manga is just a art/animation style. They seem to think that it is a all one big genre, when the truth is that it is no more a single genre then Western Animation/Comics are. And no one would lump the Lion King in with, lets say, Aeon Flux (which I thought was god-awful), so I see no reason why it should be done so with Anime/Manga. A large factor why they do lump it all together is to do with the culture surrounding it, and like Western Comics, stereotypes need to be shaken off. And it took a very, very long time for stuff like Iron Man, Bat Man, etc to be considered cool by the majority (and therefore politicians).
So basically; nerds/otakus ruin everything and are killing Anime/Manga.

Otakus are japans retaliation to hiroshima and nagasaki. They are the retaliating punch to western culture's fragility.

I might get burnt for this but Japan deserved and had to to be nuked. The only thing that was wrong with it was that they nuked the civilians and not the military who completely had it coming after what they did to China. The Japanese were totally out of control through out the war with their blatant attempts at Empire building and had to be stopped as soon as possible.
But more on topic; Japanese Culture has been effected and changed by Western Culture, so we beat them to the buck already. Us Westerners kick ass at Culture wars that don't involve Muslims. Besides, most Otaku culture will still be considered weird as hell by the general Western public for years yet, and still needs severe reforms. Nerd and Geek culture had to do the same thing, and they are still not quite taking over all of Western Culture in a storm.

Bitch I look like Goku. That trailer does some serious justice. Definitely going to be watching that. I still find it funny how many young wiminz there are though, definitely being specific about their audience aren't they. Disregard that, I know a few girls that will probably end up watching it. For any Blazblue fans, I've started watching through the radio series that has been on in Japan for a while. Quite amusing if you're a fan of the characters or people behind the characters. EDIT: Excellent day today, a Berserk anime adaptation has been announced with the 35th volume of the manga. www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-09-27/new-berserk-anime-project-launchingHopefully this one will span the entirety of the series.

Hey, a rant about lolis. I remember back when I kicked up a storm about them and felt like a responsible human being for once in my life back in the Hive^^
I'm actually getting a bit annoyed at the endless amount of underage characters not just for the creepy reasons, but also because of the fact that they don't have CHARACTER. I mean, everyone raved about Haruhi Suzumiya, but every single character on there was a damn stereotype.
I dunno, I'm just getting fed up of squeaky voiced girls and clumsy shy guys. Or serious animes where the characters are so wooden they could be played by Keanu Reeves...
I dunno, I'd just like to see some real people in anime at times.

Last page. KaosHerald posted an anime harem with a 13 year old in it and I called him out on it. He deleted his posts.
