It all started over 5 billion years ago. The precise details are unclear, but it is the popular belief that all the matter that makes up the current universe was compressed into an infinitely tiny particle. This then exploded in what is now known as 'The Big Bang'. Skip forward a few years and we see a nebula. In this nebula particles are clustering and swirling together, gravitating around a large ball of searing hydrogen plasma. A few million years later and water gathers on one of the clusters, which by this time is quite a substantial sized rock. Skip forward again another million or so and we see bacteria swimming in these pools. Volcanic activity pumps sulphuric gases into the atmosphere and lava runs over the land. Leave this to fester, adapt and evolve for another few million and we return to a land covered with green plants. creatures are swimming beneath the waters of this planet and some are making their first tentative steps onto the land. Leave this again and once more skip forward. Pass meteor strikes, supervolcanoes, dinosaurs, ice ages and mass extinctions and arrive at the last ice age. Here, on this frozen glacier, we see hunched apes striking flint against rock and creating fire. Skip forward to a country in the continent now known as Africa. Here we see the advancement these intelligent apes have reached. They are currently building a large statue of a creature that has the body of the lion and the head of a woman. Skip on through the Chosen One, Roman Empire, Wars, Peace, Wars, Wars, Electricity, Bigger Wars, Diplomacy, Star Wars, Real Wars, Splitting Atom, Uber Wars, Disagreement, Oil, Wars, Terrorists, Wars and George Bush and we arrive on an island in Europe in the year 2010. Here we see, sitting staring at a convincing array of 1s and 0s a boy of 16. This boy is the result of billions of years of acciednts, improbabilities, evolution and the universe. A complex machine of whom stats show nothing of the insane complexity of his form. A living breathing organism, a result of millions of years of evolution. An innate soulful calculating wonder. Me.
