Sooo just wondering if anyone else has made the move to Warmachine or Hordes? Personnaly I love the game, things are balanced (wish the same was true in GW games). However I still play some 40k games... Another thing is I love the game system. Things just go faster and make more sense. (Being cover actually affects your shooting instead of being some weird form of armor)

FOr those of you thinking about it heres a run down of all the armies,

Warmachine:

Cygnar- The 'good guys'. Only thing is everyone if gunning for them. Have a american civil war-WW1 era and electricity feel to them.

Retribution of Scyrah (My army) - Angry Elves out to kill all human magic users and save thier dying gods.

Mercenaries- Exactly as the name suggests... Mainly 3 factions here, General Mercs, Pirates, and dwarves.

Hordes Factions

Trollbloods- underdogs... A bunch of blue orks that are simply trying to find a place where they can be just left alone

Circle of Orboros- A bunch of druids and nature loving humans. Trying to keep a balance between order and chaos to prevent the apocalypse.

Skorne- A bunch of persian Dark Elves... Dont know how else to describe them

Legion of Everblight- Tyranids with pet Dark Eldar. Very niddy in their beasts while their troops are a bunch of corrupted elves. But nice thing is they a creature with Carni in its name and it isn't a weak pathetic waste of space

Minions- Same as Mercs except their beasts.

I personally do not have any interest in the game for a number of reasons.

Don't like the rules.
Don't like the background.
Don't like the armies.
Don't like the models.
Don't like the Warjacks.
Don't like the scenarios.

And some other ones too. But you get the picture.

I have some interest in the Protectorate of Menoth range. They have some models I might use for priestly command characters in my Word Bearer Zealot army.

I used to think the same but it was the same when I started 40k, things looked stupid. But after a bit things grew on me And I loved 40k. Then slowly I realized how much of an ass GW could be and started to lose interest, then my local store started supplying Warmachine, I tried a couple proxy games and fell In love with the rule system.

In the end I realize the game isn't for everyone, heck there are some things I don't pike about the models ( Lack of plastic models, some of the more aged metals look goofy, the nyss and thier Jay Leno chins) but I think I may stick with this game. I'm not going to quit 40k but I probably won't be givin GW any money any time soon.

I think as I do because I have looked into the game. I know more then the standard GW fanboi with the Ultrasmurf army. I know about the elitist mentality that runs riot in the Warmachine gaming community, I know about how over the top the game is regarding the importance of the Warcaster, I know how most troop types are exactly the same across the board, I know the models cost around the same as GW's stuff, I know that there isn't a lot of freedom for someone like me that likes to built custom armies from parts and putty instead of out of the box. I don't play Warmachine for good reasons.

Shame that's how you feel, as i said this game isn't for everyone, especially those who love to convert. For me if i want to convert i have my 40k armies. If i remember you have some insane armies (in a good way ) that you made out of GS so yeah it isnt for you... Was not aware of this elitist mentality your talking about... If you mean in the PP forums then of course there is. Its the same in warhammer forums you have fanbois everywhere.

You'll find out soon enough. And this isn't just a forum thing. I think there was quite a big deal made out of it a little while ago. 'Win at all cost' gaming is encouraged in the Warmachine community at large and the rules were geared towards the tournament scene from day 1. Really though, it depends who you are gaming with.

The way I see it; Warmachine caters for Gamers, Warhammer 40k caters for Artists and Infinity caters for fucking Weeaboo Scumbags that need to be shot.

It does... I have not seen any win at all costs gaming however I have watched a tournament and there were no cookie cutter lists or anything like that (but that may be a result of balance). The end result was to the wire. Now i think it may be a result of fluff/fun and competative gaming able to combine rather well (Tier lists vs taking whatever you want)where in 40k its harder to make a competative yet fluffy/fun list. I think if 40k was able to do the same you would see more WAAC gaming.

WAAC gaming isn't really a good thing. It implies that you are sacrificing fun for the sake of winning. But I get what you are trying to say.


Personally; I don't actually care if I lose or win a game. For me, the game is how I show off mah awesum army.

The thing I liked about Warmachine and Hordes was it made Win At All Costs basically doable without sacrificing your playstyle and list and stuff. Kinda managed to pull both off.

You can convert stuff, but it's a bit awkward at times. Awkward models construction wise, and many units are characters or the like. Bit annoying too that things you'll have multiples of, like certain warbeasts or units, aren't multi-posable.

But meh, I love the fluff, love the game. There was always something about 40k fluff that felt too cliched to me at times, 'like being told a story with a sledgehammer' as my local LGS owner put it.


Infinity looks annoying though. Models are too similar, or stuck in odd poses, and they cost a metric tonne more than GW or PP ever did.



EDIT: Btw, I play Legion of Everblight and Minions: Thornfall.

There's currently two Minion pure armies, Thornfall (Pigmen) and Blindwater (Voodoo gatormen).

Nuthin' like seeing an Alligator with a top hat and a waistcoat made from a ribcage tear apart some poncy elf...

The Gatormen are pretty awesome. Though I must admit, PP have been dropping the ball with them recently.

If I get this correct, as it is something that I think that I read somewhere, Warmachine and Hordes are virtually the same system, with a few key differences, and can be played off against each other... right?

Yes... While the hordes factions have a different playstyle from the warmachine ones they are intented to be played with one another.

Same universe and background. Heck, there's a couple of armies that incorporate both Warbeasts and Warmachines, to a limited extent.

The minion lesser Warlocks got their options expanded.


Rorsch and Brine now work for Cryx, Cgynar, Protectorate and Khador (and thus 4-Star and Highborn Mercs).

Wrong Eye and Snapjaw now also work for Cryx (and 4-Star Mercs).

Dahlia Shallyr and Skarath work for Retribution.

Brun Cragback and Lug work for the Searforge Commission.


Pretty much now only army that can't have a warbeast in is Talion Charter.

Oh, and Wrong Eye and Rorsch can take other warbeasts in their battlegroup now.

However im guessing Skorne are the only hordes faction still that can get jacks...
