I had this idea after a conversation with my friend outside of the forum the other night. I love music, and I hope you do too, and this thread is to share some of your favorite albums. Feel free to say which albums you like and why you love them so much. I will go first, but there's so many I doubt I'll be able to get them all.
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. This was their pinnacle. They have done a lot of great stuff before this, such as Images and Words and Awake, but this piece is the result of all the sounds and music they worked on. They took the formula from their earlier stuff and made it into this. The result is magnificent.
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral. This album, quite frankly, had NO bad songs. All of them were extremely solid. The album also had excellent buildup, from the explosive beginning of Mr. Self Destruct, to the sexually fueled Closer, and finally ending with Hurt. One of Mr. Reznor's greatest, and a must listen.
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing. Porcupine Tree has always been one of my favorites, and what can I say, this album was solid. It had no bad tracks, and great musicianship. The standout track on this one is "Arriving Somewhere, but not Here". It's a great 13 minute song, which is a must hear, if you're not going to listen to the entire album.
Skinny Puppy - VIVIsectVI. This is a landmark album from one of the greatest industrial bands of all time. Filled with great synth riffs and drums. The music is very dark, and hard to get into, but very rewarding. Not for everyone though.
Gorillaz - Demon Days. I have always loved Gorillaz, and Demon Days was a masterpiece on so many levels. It also achieved some mainstream popularity, while still being good. I actually found it a bit thought provoking myself.
Rammstein - Sehnsucht. This is Rammstein's 2nd album, and also their best. They took what they had on Herzelaid, and refined it. While the stuff after this is still good, none is as good. It was furious, and it was melodic. Their later stuff is a lot more symphonic, but it doesn't have the level of wow as their earlier stuff.
And one more album...
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon. The bands defining album, and a great listen all the way. Who can forget the bass on "Money"? This is a must-listen for everyone. Simply masterful.
While these are some of my favorites, there are a lot more I didn't get. Maybe after more posts I'll post more. If you want to post yours, go ahead!
