Pretty much vice versa for me. I think most Western mechs look ridiculous.
My least favorite has to be the Thor from SC2. It looks like it should topple and it walks like a retard! I like Warhounds though. I don't like many of the humanoid mechs like Warlords though, they look silly. Gundams are faster and far more deadly without being inflated to huge sizes with top-heavy designs that would probably put all of those little infantry walking around in a bad position when it gets toppled. Fortunately it doesn't bother me enough to avoid them, I still love the artwork.
Evangelions aren't mechs though so I can't count them.

Whilst Gundam mechs look like they can support their own weight unlike a lot of Japanese Mecha, they also have retarded wings and sticky outty bits as well as silly designs making them look like giant power rangers with hang gliders wielded to their backs.

Looking like giant power rangers is kinda what they strive to be though. I think you're exaggerating it a bit though since the only one I recall with stupid spikey designs was Gundam Seed which was pretty bad.

Gundam aren't supposed to inspire fear, they're supposed to look like symbols of hope. It is the exact same thing Power Rangers look like they do, they aren't supposed to look threatening with colors like black or dark reds. Transformers is pretty much the same.

Power Rangers are not symbols of hope. They are like Transformers. They are meant to look cool to ten year old children. I am not a ten year old so I think their cool looks dumb. Therefore I think Gundam's look dumb.

And Western mechs aren't made to look cool to ten year olds? Fairly sure I loved the type of mechs you're into when I was younger. In fact I never liked any anime mecha back then, just Dragonball and Pokemon.
Both are the same in this respect. The western mechs are trying too hard to look cool and the Japanese mechs look like toys.
